(Alliance News) - Brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev NV's Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I has become JD Wetherspoon PLC's largest beer supplier in a 20-year contract co-announced on Monday.
After a 41-year association with brewer Heineken NV, pub operator Wetherspoon will be making some changes to its beer and cider line-up. Starting December 15, Budweiser Brewing Group's portfolio, including Budweiser and Stella Artois, will feature prominently on draught and in packaged format across every Wetherspoon pub.
Wetherspoon has also recently agreed long-term deals with current suppliers BrewDog, Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Co and Molson Coors.
Wetherspoon Chair Tim Martin said: "We are also pleased to have agreed long-term supply deals with BrewDog, Westons Cider, Carlsberg and Molson Coors. Wetherspoon will continue to sell a wide range of traditional ales and craft beers from regional and micro brewers at competitive prices. We're very pleased to have such a brilliant group of brewers supporting our efforts."
Draught ciders Strongbow and Strongbow Dark Fruits will be replaced by Stowford Press Apple and Stowford Press Mixed Berries, made by Westons Cider, while John Smiths bitter will be replaced by Worthington's bitter, supplied by Molson Coors.
Budweiser Brewing Group has increased its keg and trucking capacity in order to sustain the volume for the new Wetherspoon deal, with the brewer saying it is "in a strong position to meet demand during the busy Christmas period".
Wetherspoon shares were up 1.5% to 905.50 pence each in London on Monday morning, while AB InBev was trading 0.6% higher to EUR51.52 in Brussels.
