JD Wetherspoon hits back at "inaccurate" supply chain issues reports

2nd Sep 2021 14:31

(Alliance News) - JD Wetherspoon PLC on Thursday hit back at "inaccurate" reports on the its beer supply chain issues.

The pub chain on Wednesday confirmed some branches had not received deliveries of certain beers due to recent threatened industrial action by drivers and warehouse staff.

However, it disputed that it is running low on beer as the shortages applied "to a minority of the 23 products sold on draught" by its pubs.

It also disputed that the supply chain issues were related to Brexit and claimed stock levels on Wednesday mirrored levels in the same period of 2019.

Particularly, the pub branded the BBC's report that it was running low on beer as "highly misleading".

"Strenuous efforts are being made to link supply issues to Brexit," said Chair Tim Martin.

"In this case the main link relates to industrial action - Brexit gave the power to the UK government to allow more HGV drivers in, should it choose to do so."

Shares in JD Wetherspoons were up 0.2% at 1,120.00 pence in London on Thursday afternoon trade.
