ITM Power To Market Larger Scale Plant Designs At German Trade Fair

12th Dec 2016 08:22

LONDON (Alliance News) - Energy storage and clean fuel firm ITM Power PLC on Monday said it will showcase a series of large-scale electrolyser configurations up to 100.0 megawatts in size at the HANNOVER MESSE 2017 technology trade fair in Germany.

ITM said it was presenting the larger scale equipment to meet increased demand from the oil and gas industry for larger-scale industrial installations.

"ITM Power has sold a number of megawatt scale plants over the last year and is now responding to enquires for much larger plant for bus and heavy goods vehicle refuelling stations in the 1.0 megawatt to 10.0 megawatt range and, increasingly, industrial applications ranging from power-to-gas, refineries and steel making in the 10.0 megawatt to 100.0 megawatt range," said the company.

"The designs that will be showcased include the new 2.2 megawatt unit which is at the heart of the 10, 30, 60 and 100 megawatt designs created for this new market demand," ITM added.

ITM's units are powered by turning water into oxygen and hydrogen gas by passing an electric current through the water. ITM said there is scope for the units in numerous industries, including the chemical, power-to-gas energy storage, steel making and refinery sectors.

The company said the design of its units allow it to scale up the size with ease, minimising development time and maintaining the standardisation of manufacturing the units. The benefits from compact size, fast response time, high operating efficiency and high pressure have all been maintained.

Outside of the trade fair in Hannover, ITM will also present its larger plant designs at a swathe of other events in London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Paris and elsewhere in Germany. They will also be presented at numerous conferences in the US.

"These new plant designs are being launched at the Hannover Messe 2017 in response to a dramatically increased number of enquiries at large scale. These products will make ITM Power uniquely placed to provide solutions to the requirements of these new industrial applications," said Chief Executive Graham Cooley.

ITM shares were up 2.7% to 24.0 pence per share on Monday morning.
