ITM Power, Partners Get GBP2.89 Million Grant For Refuelling Stations

27th Mar 2015 16:39

LONDON (Alliance News) - ITM Power PLC said Friday that it has been awarded GBP2.89 million in funding under a scheme run by the UK government's Office of Low Emission Vehicles, comprising GBP1.89 million for two new London-located Hydrogen Refuelling Stations and a further GBP1 million for upgrading four existing stations.

One of the new stations will be built in the forecourt of a global fuel retailer, ITM said, and it has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with this retailer to build up to an initial three refuelling stations in London, and it will be seeking funding support for at least one more station.

As part of the Island Hydrogen project, which ITM is leading, a refuelling station has been built at the Hydrogen Mini Grid at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham. This station will be open to hydrogen vehicle users in the second quarter of 2015, ITM said.

"The funding for these new refuelling stations in London, coupled with partnering a major global fuel retailer are both important steps in the roll out of Hydrogen mobility in the UK. By the beginning of 2016 ITM Power will own and operate six HRS in the UK, centred on London," said Chief Executive Officer Graham Cooley in a statement.

Shares in the company were temporarily suspended shortly before the announcement; they were trading up 14.8% at 35.00 pence before they were suspended.
