LONDON (Alliance News) - Energy storage firm ITM Power PLC on Wednesday said it will supply an electrolyser to a programme designed to demonstrate the use of blended hydrogen in the UK's national power grid.
The GBP6.8 million project, which will be led by electricity network operator National Grid PLC and funded by UK energy market regulator Ofgem, is a key project for establishing a framework for hydrogen gas-grid injection in the UK, ITM said.
"This award by Ofgem to fund a demonstration of the use of hydrogen in the gas grid is the first step towards the creation of a UK power-to-gas market, which will play an important part in the decarbonisation of the UK gas grid," said Graham Cooley, ITM's chief executive.
"We are delighted to be a contributor to setting out the structure and benefits to the public of this new market," he added.
ITM shares were up 4.7% at 24.21 pence on Wednesday.
