ROME (Alliance News) - Italy's EU harmonized inflation turned positive for the first time in three months in May, provisional data from the Istat showed Friday.
The harmonized index of consumer prices rose by 0.2% in May from last year, in contrast to a 0.1% fall in April. This was the first increase in three months.
Likewise, the monthly growth came in at 0.2% versus 0.4% rise in April. Prices were expected to rise 0.1% on both annual and monthly basis.
Consumer prices rose 0.2% year-on-year offsetting last month's 0.1% fall. This was the first increase since November 2014. The increase on a monthly basis held steady at 0.2%.
Another report from Istat showed that producer prices in the domestic market fell 3.1% annually versus 3% drop in March. The monthly decline was 0.3%.
Overall producer prices dropped 2.3% annually after falling 2.3%. Month-on-month, producer prices were down 0.1%.
