Irish wholesale prices turn to annual and monthly fall in August

(Alliance News) - Wholesale prices in Ireland declined in August, data published by the Central Statistics Office showed Friday.

Wholesale prices fell by 1.7% on-year in August, compared to a rise of 5.4% in July.

Notably, wholesale electricity prices fell by 5.6% year-on-year in August, after rising by 15% in July.

Monthly, overall wholesale prices declined by 4.3% in August after a 0.2% uptick in July.

Wholesale electricity prices contracted by 9.5% monthly in August after a 3.0% increase in July.

"Wholesale electricity prices have seen significant changes over the last two years, with prices down by 74% when compared with the peak that occurred in August 2022," the CSO highlighted.
