Irish harmonised consumer price inflation speeds up to 1.8% in March

(Alliance News) - Ireland's harmonised consumer price index inflation accelerated in March, preliminary data published by the Central Statistics Office showed Monday.

The harmonised CPI rose to 1.8% on-year in March, from 1.4% in February.

Notably, the harmonised index excluding energy and unprocessed food rose by 2.0% annually in March, easing from a 2.2% increase in February.

Energy prices were estimated to have declined by 0.4% annually and by 1.0% compared to February. Food prices rose by 3.2% on the year and 0.8% on the month. Transport costs increased by 2.0% over the month and were 1.7% higher than a year ago.

Month-on-month, Irish harmonised prices rose by 0.7% in March.

Eurostat will publish flash estimates of inflation from the EU HICP for the eurozone for March, including Ireland, on Tuesday.
