LONDON (Alliance News) - IQE PLC said Tuesday that it had been chosen as a supply-chain partner for NASDAQ listed M/A-COM Technology Solutions Inc's Gallium Nitride on Silicon programme.
Under the agreement IQE will deliver wafers that have a Gallium Nitride on Silicon performance at a mainstream 200 millimetre silicon cost structure.
Gallium nitride is a hard semiconductor material primarily used in light-emitting diodes.
MACOM will license IQE to produce these wafers using MACOM's patent-protected technology. The company said that this will allow it to accelerate its Gallium Nitrate penetration into key target markets.
"We are beginning to see very significant traction for GaN occurring in the compound semiconductor industry, across a wide range of applications," said Chief Executive Drew Nelson in a statement. "Our partnership with MACOM allows us to further penetrate this market by bringing decades of high volume production experience to create the supply chain needed to accelerate GaN adoption."
No financial details of the agreement were disclosed.
Shares in IQE were trading up 4.8% at 24.38 pence Tuesday morning.
