(Alliance News) - Intertek Group PLC on Monday said it has launched a carbon neutral certification product and has handed an award to Swedish oil and gas firm Lundin Energy AB.
Intertek explained the CarbonZero certification programme is intended to highlight companies that "demonstrate traceable, tangible and auditable progress on the path to carbon neutrality".
"The new Intertek CarbonZero programme complements the previously launched Intertek CarbonClear programme, an independent carbon emissions intensity certification verifying actual emissions incurred per unit produced, and standardized by industry," the company added.
"Intertek CarbonZero certifies the achievement of carbon neutrality by combining emissions intensity certifications such as CarbonClear, together with certification of traceable high-quality carbon capture or reduction investments."
Its first CarbonZero award was given to Lundin, Intertek added. It follows Lundin's "verified carbon neutral sale of 600,000 barrels" from the Edvard Grieg field in the Norwegian North Sea.
Intertek added: "This sale will carry the Intertek CarbonZero Verified mark and details of this and all traceable certifications are publicly listed for investors, traders, regulators, and other stakeholders on Intertek's Global Sustainability Directory."
Intertek shares were 1.3% higher at 6,276.00 pence each in London on Monday morning.
