Integumen Says AI Water Research Project Delivers Successful Results

20th Nov 2019 14:41

(Alliance News) - Integumen PLC said Wednesday its Rinocould water testing platform detected E.coli bacteria with almost perfect accuracy in seconds during a research project.

The company said the three-year remote automated water test research project, using artificial intelligence, was conducted at the Inniscarra Water Reservoir in Cork, Ireland.

During the research, Rinocloud artificial intelligence platform was used to test water samples from a fully autonomous data buoy for E.coli, a bacterium that can cause illness in humans including diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever and sometimes vomiting.

The company said Rinocloud platform detected E.coli bacteria in water with 99.3% accuracy in 3.37 seconds.

"This compares to current standard test detection time of between 5-7 days," the company said.

Integumen was part of the consortium, which was partly funded by the Irish Environmental Protection Agency. The consortium also comprised of the Irish Environmental Protection Agency, Cork Institute of Technology, and the CIT Nimbus embedded systems research institute.

Integumen Chief Executive Officer Gerard Brandon said: "Integumen continues to lead the way with practical demonstrations of solutions for real-world problems."

"Remote detection of water contamination across the globe is a first and third world problem with future climate change threatening to increase flooding and contribute to water shortages," Brandon said.

Integumen shares were up 2.4% in London at 1.89 pence each on Wednesday.
