Inmarsat Trialling SwiftBroadband Safety Equipment On Airbus A319

14th Aug 2014 10:15

LONDON (Alliance News) - Inmarsat PLC said Thursday that it has installed and begun on-going trials of its Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System capable SwiftBroadband safety equipment on an Airbus A319.

This ACARS system is used to transmit short messages between aircraft and ground stations via airband radio or satellite.

The equipment was installed in May, and Inmarsat says it has been closely monitoring the system on board the aircraft. Inmarsat said it has "consistently surpassed performance expectations."

"A key point is that SB Safety provides a prioritised IP data pipe for the cockpit, for both security and continuity of service," said President of Aviation Leo Mondale in a statement. "This is particularly important for airlines that use SwiftBroadband for both safety services and cabin connectivity.?

Shares in Inmarsat were trading up 0.6% at 703.50 pence Thursday morning.
