Inmarsat Secures Chinese Government Approval For Launch Of IsatPhone 2

14th Jul 2016 09:11

LONDON (Alliance News) - Satellite communications provider Inmarsat PLC on Thursday said it has secured approval in China for its IsatPhone 2 technology.

The approval from the government of China will make Inmarsat the only international operator legally allowed to sell handheld satellite phones in the country.

Inmarsat said it is working alongside partners MCN Beijing and China Telecom Satellite on the launch of the phone.

"This is a very significant announcement for Inmarsat and something we have worked hard on with our partners and the Chinese government. Given the size and scale of the country, there is huge demand for reliable mobile voice communications in China," said Tim Johnson, vice-president of the Inmarsat Enterprise unit.

Shares in Inmarsat were up 0.3% to 806.50 pence.
