LONDON (Alliance News) - Satellite communications company Inmarsat PLC said Wednesday it has entered a strategic partnership with Singapore Telecommunications Ltd to enhance maritime cyber security.
Under the partnership Singapore Teelecommunications' cyber security arm Trustwave will provide a software-based United Threat Management platform, which will be integrated with Inmarsat hardware onboard ships. This service will be delivered via Inmarsat's Fleet Xpress broadband product for maritime and offshore operators.
No financial details on the agreement were disclosed.
"The landscape of shipping is changing. As we move from traditional shipping into the ship intelligence era, the threat of cyber attacks have never been more real. Risks from malicious attacks and unlawful access to a ship's intelligence, its system infrastructure and networks cannot be ignored, and the shipping industry needs to take action," said President of Inmarsat Maritime Ronald Spithout in a statement.
Shares in Inmarsat were down 0.8% at 981.00 pence Wednesday morning.
