Inmarsat Inks European In-Flight Connectivity Deal With Lufthansa

20th Oct 2015 13:19

LONDON (Alliance News) - Satellite communications company Inmarsat PLC on Tuesday said it has signed a deal with German carrier Lufthansa AG to provide high-speed in-flight connectivity services for passengers on its European continental fleet.

The deal, which follows a memorandum of understanding the pair signed last month, will provide a contract framework for FTSE 100-listed Inmarsat to extend the service to other carriers.

It will equip more than 150 Lufthansa jets with Global Xpress technology, with additional aircraft to be fitted in due course. The first will be equipped and tested in early summer 2016.

No financial details on the contract were disclosed.

"We are very pleased to conclude this strategic agreement with Lufthansa Group, which ensures that Lufthansa will be offering their continental fleet passengers the best in-flight connectivity in the airline industry today," said Leo Mondale, Inmarsat Aviation president.

Inmarsat shares were up 3.4% to 954.5 pence on Tuesday afternoon, one of the best performers in the FTSE 100.
