LONDON (Alliance News) - Satellite communications company Inmarsat PLC on Tuesday confirmed the successful launch of the third satellite in its Global Xpress constellation.
The FTSE 100 company said the Inmarsat-5 F3 was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Friday and entered orbit on Monday morning.
The company's operations team will raise the satellite to its final orbit in coming weeks and undertake payload testing. After this, the satellite will be ready to join the existing two-strong constellation.
Shares in the company had pushed higher on Friday after the successful launch of the satellite in Kazakhstan. The last attempt to launch the satellite had been delayed and left Inmarsat having to suspend its revenue growth guidance. It is targeting for the introduction of its GX global commercial service by the end of the year.
