LONDON (Alliance News) - RELX PLC on Wednesday announced the retirement and appointment of non-executive directors, including the hiring of Inmarsat PLC's chair to serve on the RELX board as well.
Andrew Sukawaty, currently non-executive chair at satellite firm Inmarsat, will join scientific, technical, and medical analytics publisher RELX as a non-executive director effective from its 2019 annual general meeting on April 25.
Sukawaty was senior independent director at Sky PLC between 2013 and last year, leaving after the takeover by the US's Comcast Corp. He also has served as chair of Dutch cable operator Ziggo NV and as deputy chairman of O2 PLC.
Current Non-Executive Director Ben van der Veer will be leaving RELX at the AGM.
Chairman Anthony Habgood said: "I would like to welcome Andrew to RELX. The board will benefit from his considerable international experience in the technology sector, acquired through his experience in technology-led businesses throughout his career in both executive and non-executive roles.
"His appointment continues the progressive evolution of the RELX board, and I look forward to Andrew joining us after the 2019 AGM."
"On behalf of the directors, I would like to thank Ben for his major contributions over the past nine years, both to the board deliberation overall and in his role as chairman of the audit committee," Habgood continued.
"During Ben's tenure as a non-executive director, RELX has developed into a global provider of information-based decision tools and significantly simplified its corporate structure and governance arrangements. His advice and guidance through this transformational period were hugely appreciated. Ben leaves RELX with our very best wishes for the future."
RELX shares were up 0.6% in early trade Wednesday in London at 1,658.50 pence each.
