(Alliance News) - Natural gas storage firm Infrastrata PLC on Friday said a public consultation related to the issuing of a marine licence for its Islandmagee project in Northern Ireland has been extended.
The consultation period, which will now run until March 23, was extended by the company and the the Northern Irish Department of Agriculture, Environment & Rural Affairs due to the amount of public interest shown in the gas storage project, Infrastrata explained.
The company, which has a draft marine licence, said the consultation extension is not expected delay the process to attain a full marine licence.
"DAERA will continue to process responses to the consultation process whilst simultaneously dealing with any additional information received during this extended period," Infrastrata said.
Chief Executive Officer John Wood said: "We are delighted with the positive response that we have received during the consultation process. In order to accommodate further requests to attend and learn more about the project, we have decided to extend the process.
"We remain confident that the marine license will be issued following due process. The extensive scientific work undertaken on the project clearly indicates that the project will comply with the regulatory framework that is currently in place."
Shares in the company were 1.6% lower at 0.30 pence each in London on Friday afternoon.
