(Alliance News) - Informa PLC on Friday said it has acquired F1000 Research Ltd for an undisclosed sum in order to develop its capabilities in the field of open access publishing.
Informa is an international exhibitions, events, information services, and scholarly publishing firm. Its stock was down 0.3% at 839.20 pence in London in morning trading.
F1000 Research, which offers fully managed open research publishing services, will be added to Informa's academic publishing business, Taylor & Francis. This will create F1000 Research Ltd by Taylor & Francis.
As well as its open research publishing services, F1000 Research also offers an independent open research publishing platform which can be used by scientists as well as academics to allow rapid academic research publication.
Informa said: "The addition of F1000 Research complements and extends Taylor & Francis's programme of investment to expand our presence and capabilities within the increasingly important [open access] publishing arena.
"It follows the addition of leading independent OA journal publisher, Dove Medical Press, in 2017 and ongoing internal investment in developing our range of OA publications and services, with more than 300 OA journals now published across our total journal portfolio of over 2,700 titles."
Informa added that no financial details of the deal have been disclosed.
