Weiss Korea Opportunity Fund Ltd - closed-ended investment company managed by Boston-based Weiss Asset Management - June 30 NAV per share GBP1.6819 versus GBP1.5559 at December 31. Net assets rise to GBP138.1 million from GBP127.0 million. Benchmark MSCI Korea 25/50 Net Total Return Index decreased 1.7% in sterling terms. "The outperformance against the Korea Index during the first half of 2020 was largely due to discount narrowing of preference shares owned, which contributed 9.6% of the 11.3% NAV performance," the fund explained.
Weiss added: "One interesting observation during the first half of 2020 was a lack of crowdedness in WKOF's investments. During the middle of March, the most violent drawdowns largely occurred in less liquid asset classes. Despite preference shares generally having lower liquidity than the corresponding ordinary shares, we did not observe a corresponding general widening of discounts in the preference shares owned by WKOF."
