IN BRIEF: STV secures "biggest-ever" content deal with Banijay Rights

15th Jul 2021 11:35

STV Group PLC - Glasgow-based television broadcaster - Signs "biggest-ever" content deal after partnering with Banijay Rights to bring over 1,200 hours of new programming to the free streaming service. The move is STV's biggest content deal to date and will see films starring big names including Olivia Colman, Nick Jonas and Rowan Atkinson appearing on STV Player.

"As STV Player has continued to grow its audience across the country, we've gained a clearer idea of what our viewers want from the service," comments STV Digital Managing Director Richard Williams.

"This significant deal with Banijay taps right into that."

The move comes as the company reports advertising trends improvement through 2021, with total advertising revenue growth of 32% year-on-year in the six months to June 30. Total advertising revenue is up 5% on the same period in 2019, before Covid.

STV also reports a record viewing performance for the first half of 2021, with a 94% rise in streams and 66% increase in total online viewing. STV's viewing share is up 1.6 points to 21% in the six months to the end of June, the highest growth of any of the UK's 500+ TV channels, it claims.
