RIT Capital Partners PLC - managed by J Rothschild Capital Management Ltd, aims for long-term capital growth while preserving shareholders' capital - Net asset value total return for 2020 is 16%, though share price total return is negative 0.4% as swings to 9.9% discount from 5.5% premium. NAV per share on December 31 is 2,292 pence, up 14% from 2,004p a year before, and declares 35.0p annual dividend, up 2.9% from 34.0p in 2019.
"We are very much aware that the move in your company's rating over the year to trade at a discount to the NAV, resulted in shareholders experiencing a flat overall return, lagging the growth in the NAV," says Chair James Leigh-Pemberton. "However, the nature and composition of our investment portfolio means we do not publish a daily NAV. And so, the strong performance in December, well above many market estimates, was not reflected in the share price, resulting in a discount of 9.9% at year end. This discount narrowed since the year end."
