IN BRIEF: Ofcom to reduce cap for call termination rates

30th Mar 2021 21:46

UK Office of Communications - UK telecommunications regulator - Will regulate wholesale markets underpinning landline and mobile calls in the UK from April 2021 to March 2026.

Will cap termination rates for calls made and received in the UK, based on the cost of connecting a call. For calls to mobile, will have a cap of 0.379 pence per minute next year, lower than the current cap of 0.468p. Will also continue applying this mobile termination cap to calls from '070' numbers.

Also, as landline calls become increasingly carried over more modern Internet Protocol networks, Ofcom will deregulate wholesale call origination, as providers will no longer need to purchase it from BT.
