IN BRIEF: Harland & Wolff gets gas storage marine licence from DEFRA

Harland & Wolff Group Holdings PLC - Belfast-based specialist in ship repair, conversion and offshore construction - Gets marine licence for Islandmagee Gas Storage project from Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs. "The issuance of this licence will facilitate the abstraction and discharge of seawater and brine respectively during the cavern formation," says Harland & Wolff. Believes storage project is vital to ensure security of gas supply in UK, amid current crisis. The Islandmagee Gas Storage project is a salt cavern gas storage facility in Antrim, Northern Ireland.

"This marks a major step forward in the Project's journey, paving the way for the construction of our proposed facility," says Chief Executive John Wood. "We have worked tirelessly over a two-year period to ensure that our proposals meet and exceed legislative requirements, taking onboard the many comments made by the local community and other stakeholders."

Current stock price: 21.90 pence, up 23% on Wednesday

Year-to-date change: down 54%
