Coats Group PLC - Uxbridge, England-based industrial thread maker - The UK Financial Reporting Council imposed a "severe reprimand" on Richard Jones for misconduct related to actuarial advisory services he provided to Coats from September 2005 to March 2012. The FRC also imposed a financial penalty of GBP100,000, which was reduced to GBP65,000 for mitigation and settlement. The audit and corporate governance regulator said Jones provide actuarial advice to Coats, then known as Guinness Peat Group, while at the same time advising individual GPG executives in their capacity as trustees of three defined-pension schemes of GPG subsidiaries, "despite the obvious conflicts of interest that arose". The FRC said GPG during that period "favoured minimising contributions to the schemes in order to maximise the profits of the company".
The FRC said however that Jones's conduct was not dishonest and that he didn't benefit financially as a result.
