EnSilica PLC - Oxford, England-based computer chip maker - Announces that the UK government is providing further investment in satellite communications. It says the UK Space Agency outlines an additional GBP30 million of funding under its "Connectivity in Low Earth Orbit" programme, or C-LEO, which aims to directly help UK companies developing advanced technologies.
Ensilica says it will be seeking to secure funding from this second round of investment from the C-LEO programme, which previously awarded the company GBP10.4 million in non-dilutive funding to develop semiconductor for "next-generation" mass-market satellite broadband user terminals.
Chief Executive Officer Ian Lankshear says: "We welcome this further commitment from the UK Space Agency, which reinforces the UK's ambition to play a leading role in the next generation of satellite connectivity, of which EnSilica continues to leverage its expertise to grow market share."
