IN BRIEF: BT notes tribunal's dismissal of landline class action

19th Dec 2024 11:16

BT Group PLC - London-based multinational telecommunications company - Says the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal has dismissed Justin Le Patourel's class action against the company, concluding that BT's conduct did not breach competition law.

The Collective Action on Land Lines founder had alleged that BT charged customers "excessive and unfair" prices for standalone landlines, following watchdog Ofcom's investigation into the firm in 2017. At the time, BT agreed to reduce its landline prices, but Le Patourel believed BT owed compensation payments and raised the issue with the CAT. Millions of customers would have received between GBP300 and GBP400 each, depending on the length of their contract, if the claim had been successful.

"We take our responsibilities to all our customers very seriously and welcome today's ruling," BT says.
