BSF Enterprise PLC - London-based biotech company - Announces that its wholly-owned subsidiary Lab-Grown Leather Ltd has successfully produced a fully tanned, scaffold-free skin reaching A4 sheet size and approaching an "industrially relevant" two millimetres in thickness, as part of its Elemental product series. Says this was "achieved in a matter of weeks using LGL's proprietary Advanced Tissue Engineering Platform", using a scaleable process developed over the last six months.
"This first full tanning of the material - a critical processing step required before leather can be used in finished goods - confirms that Elemental is advancing through the technical readiness pathway towards commercial supply," BSF says. Adds that the process can be tuned to produce leathers with unique characteristics that conventional methods cannot produce ethically, leaving LGL "able to uniquely position Elemental as a high-end, low-intervention material, setting the standard for a new generation of leather and cultivating a new era for luxury." Says it is now in a position to extend its engagement with luxury goods manufacturers, material distributors, and brand partners on the basis of a tangible, scalable and demonstrable product, with the ATEP platform providing "a defensible competitive moat".
