IN BRIEF: Beximco to distribute 1 million Covid vaccines in Bangladesh

11th Oct 2021 12:16

Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd - Bangladesh-based pharmaceutical company - Receives one-off delivery of 1 million Covid vaccines for distribution in Bangladesh. The shipment is part of a deal with Bangladesh government and the Serum Institute of India to supply Covid vaccines and marks the first delivery since Indian government controls on vaccine exports began in April. Eight million doses have now been delivered to Bangladesh, Beximco says. Under the terms of the original agreement, 30 million doses are to be delivered in total.

In August, Beximco was forced to deny that the vaccine deal had changed after reports that Serum could see a delay in production until 2022. The company is yet to receive a schedule for delivery of the remaining doses and the Indian government's policy on vaccine export controls remains unclear, Beximco notes.
