IN BRIEF: BAT non-exec director departs to avoid conflict of interest

1st Apr 2021 08:44

British American Tobacco PLC - London-based cigarette and vaping products maker - Jerry Fowden steps down as non-executive director on Thursday and won't stand for re-election at BAT's April 28 annual general meeting. "In view of BAT group activities to expand its portfolio beyond nicotine, Jerry has decided to step down from the board of the company to ensure there would be no potential for a conflict of interest to arise in view of his other external commitments, which he has decided to focus on," the company says. Fowden joined the BAT board in September 2019. At the time, he was executive chair of Cott Corp, a US beverage manufacturer, having previously been chief executive officer. Cott became Primo Water Corp, and Fowden remains chair. He also is on the board of US beer and spirits maker Constellation Brands Inc. Among his executive roles were with PepsiCo Inc and Mars Inc. He also was CEO of the Beverage division of Hero Group.
