LONDON (Alliance News) - International Consolidated Airlines Group confirmed on Friday a press report that British Airways is in talks with two Chinese airlines to start code-sharing flights between Europe and China.
A spokesperson for IAG confirmed Chief Executive Willie Walsh revealed that talks were ongoing during a media briefing in Hong Kong recently, but would not provide any further comment.
According to US investor website MarketWatch, Walsh said British Airways was looking to code share with domestic carriers China Eastern Airlines Corp and China Southern Airlines Corp in a bid to strengthen its network between Europe and China.
Walsh reportedly hopes to sign some agreements this year.

Codesharing is an aviation business arrangement whereby two or more airlines share the same flight. Each airline markets the flight under its own name and flight number, but the flight is operated by only one of the cooperating airlines.
British Airways is part of the Oneworld airline alliance. Members include American Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Cathay Pacific and IAG-owned Iberia, as well as others, but not any domestic Chinese carriers.
IAG owns British Airways, Aer Lingus, and Spanish carriers Iberia and Vueling.
Shares in IAG were trading down 0.4% at 525.50 pence on Friday morning.
