Hurricane Energy plugs North Sea well before regulatory deadline

7th Jul 2021 12:30

(Alliance News) - Hurricane Energy PLC on Wednesday said it has fulfilled its regulatory obligation to plug and abandon the jointly owned Lincoln-14, west of Shetland.

The Surrey, England-based oil producer operates the well on behalf of a joint venture split equally between Hurricane and Barrow-in-Furness headquartered oil & natural gas firm Spirit Energy Resources Ltd.

The venture holds the P1368 South licence in the Greater Warwick Area of the North Sea where the Lincoln-14 well is located.

In mid-June, Hurricane hired the Stena Don, a semi-submersible rig, to plug the well before the regulatory deadline on October 31.

"The operation was completed within both schedule and budget. The Stena Don semi-submersible rig contracted to undertake the work has now been released," the company added.

Shares in Hurricane were trading down 1.7% at 3.58 pence each in London on Wednesday afternoon.
