Hurricane Energy Picks Former Pharos COO Antony Maris As CEO Designate

21st Aug 2020 07:53

(Alliance News) - Hurricane Energy PLC on Friday said it has appointed the former Pharos Energy PLC chief operating officer Antony Maris as chief executive designate.

Maris was COO at Pharos from 2012 until early 2020 and was awarded the Friendship Order Medal by the Vietnam government for its contribution to exploration and production activities in the country.

Before Pharos, Maris held a number of engineering, commercial and management roles at Consort Resources Ltd, Monument Oil & Gas PLC, LASMO PLC, and Phillips Petroleum.

As CEO designate, Maris will work with interim chief Beverley Smith during a transition period before taking over the role once Hurrican'e interim 2020 financial results have been published. This is set to take place on September 11, after which Smith will go back to a non-executive role.

Chair Steven McTiernan said: "I am very pleased to report that Antony Maris has agreed to assume the chief executive role at Hurricane. His leadership record with entrepreneurial oil and gas companies, and importantly his technical experience and knowledge of the behaviour of fractured basement reservoirs, makes him the ideal candidate to lead Hurricane.

"The short transition period with Beverley Smith will allow their combined contribution to the ongoing technical review. I would also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Beverley for ably stewarding the company during the leadership transition."
