HSBC Poaches Citigroup Veteran Roberts As New Head Of US Business

(Alliance News) - HSBC Holdings PLC announced on Monday it has appointed Citigroup Inc veteran Michael Roberts to replace the retiring Patrick Burke as the new chief of its US operations.

Roberts spent 34 years at Citigroup and was the US bank's chief lending officer since 2010.

John Flint, the group chief executive of HSBC, said: "We are delighted to welcome Michael to HSBC. Michael brings with him significant international, strategic and regulatory experience that will prove invaluable in leading the US business forward.”

The company said in June 2018 that it was aiming to "turnaround its US business" which the group described as its "most challenging strategic priority".

Flint also praised Burke for his 30 years of service with the company and said he was "instrumental in our US turnaround plan".

Retiring Flint joined HSBC in 1989 and also served as president and chief executive of HFC Bank Ltd.
