LONDON (Alliance News) - Horizon Discovery Group PLC said Thursday it has licensed the Broad Institute's CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing system, which is used to mutate or change genes in living cells.
The Broad Institute is a research centre in the US state of Massachusetts, connected with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.
Under a non-exclusive license agreement, Horizon Discovery has the rights to use the CRISPR/Cas9 intellectual property for applications such as the development of research tools and reagents, or for use in its GENASSIST product for gene editing.
The company said the acquisition of the intellectual property strengthened its position in the gene editing market, and will allow the technology to be used across its portfolio of products and services.
Shares in Horizon Discovery were trading up 1.9% at 162.96 pence Thursday afternoon.
