Horizon Discovery Consortium Awarded GBP1.7M In Funding

18th Feb 2015 08:30

LONDON (Alliance News) - Horizon Discovery Group PLC said Wednesday it has been awarded GBP1.7 million in funding, alongside the Centre for Process Innovation and Professor Alan Dickson of the University of Manchester, to support the development of a commercially valuable enhancement to Chinese hamster ovary cell lines.

Horizon will receive up to GBP747,000 of his funding award from Innovate UK's 'Industrial Biotechnology Catalyst' scheme.

The project is aiming to develop a suite of engineering Chinese hamster ovary cell lines containing a range of modifications to control and improve the metabolic performance of the cells for the production of biological medicines.

"Cell line development through targeted gene editing will be critical in delivering the next generation of biological medicines," said Business Development Director at Horizon Brian Burke in a statement.

Shares in Horizon Discovery are untraded Wednesday. It last traded at 215.00 pence.
