Hochschild Mining Suspends Argentina Mine Operations Amid Quarantine

20th Mar 2020 14:19

(Alliance News) - Hochschild Mining PLC said Friday it has temporarily suspended operations at its San Jose mine in Argentina following the government's decision in the country to impose a nationwide mandatory quarantine to contain the spread of Covid-19.

The quarantine came into effect Friday and will last for the rest of March.

In Peru, Hochschild will continue with a reduced workforce operating care-and-maintenance activities.

"This is in order to sustain the appropriate safety and environmental systems, as well as other critical activities, including ventilation, water pumping, maintenance of critical equipment and environmental measurements among others," the miner added.

Shares in Hochschild Mining were 7.6% higher in London on Friday afternoon at 99.55 pence each.
