Alliance News) - Hipgnosis Songs Fund Ltd said that it has bought the music catalogue of New-Zealand producer and musician Joel Little, known for collaborations with artists such as Taylor Swift and Lorde.
The London-based investor in musical intellectual property rights acquires songs and songwriter's catalogues to collect the associated revenue.
Hipgnosis Songs Fund offered no financial details about the deal with Little. The company said that Little will be represented in the deal by his manager Ashley Page at Page One Management and his lawyer Nicky Stein at Clintons.
Little's 178 song catalogue made USD4.3 million of revenue in 2019, up 45% from USD3.0 million the previous year. The producer's songs collect 30% of their revenue through streaming and 36% through his writer's share.
Little was a co-writer and producer on Lorde's first hit album 'Pure Heroine' released in 2013, including the global hit 'Royals'. The producer continued to co-write on her follow up album, 'Melodrama', released in 2017. Little worked with Taylor Swift on her 2019 album 'Lover' including the hit singles, 'Me!', 'You Need to Calm Down' and 'The Man' - all of which have been streamed over 1 billion times globally across all music services, Hipgnosis noted. Little also has produced and co-written songs with Ellie Goulding, Imagine Dragons, Shawn Mendes, Khalid, Sam Smith, James Bay and Jonas Brothers.
Merck Mercuriadis, founder of Hipgnosis Songs Fund, said: "Joel is one of the most important songwriters in the world today."
Hipgnosis Songs Fund shares were trading up 0.1% at 124.57 pence each in London on Friday morning.
