Hipgnosis Buys Music Catalogue Of Rock Band Blondie's Co-Founders

5th Aug 2020 10:58

(Alliance News) - Hipgnosis Songs Fund Ltd on Wednesday said it has bought the music royalty catalogue of rock band Blondie co-founders Debbie Harry and Chris Stein.

The songs being acquired by the FTSE 250-listed music catalogue investor include 1980 hit Rapture, In The Flesh and Call Me. Royalties to Debbie Harry's solo albums Koo Koo and Rockbird have also been acquired.

Hipgnosis has acquired 100% of Harry's and Stein's writer's share and neighbouring rights royalties in their catalogues which comprise 197 songs.

No financial details were disclosed.

Merck Mercuriadis, founder of Hipgnosis, said: "I have followed every move that Debbie and Chris have made since day one. Their singles have been not only massively successful but era and genre defining. Equally well they have made cultural albums of the greatest importance. No one should ever go anywhere without Blondie, Plastic Letters, Parallel Lines, my favourite Eat To The Beat or Autoamerican with them at all times. I am delighted to welcome Debbie and Chris to the Hipgnosis Family and look forward to working with them for years to come."

Hipgnosis shares were trading 0.4% lower at 118.49 pence each on Wednesday morning in London.
