(Alliance News) - Hipgnosis Songs Fund Ltd on Monday said it has acquired 50% of the copyright interest and writers share in the song catalogue of Robert 'RZA' Diggs, a member of hip-hop group Wu Tang Clan.
The FTSE 250-listed music catalogue investor said Diggs has co-wrote and produced albums which include Tical by Method Man, Ghostface Killah's Ironman, and Wu-Tang Clan album Wu-Tang Forever.
RZA also released four solo studio albums: Bobby Digital in Stereo, Digital Bullet, Digi Snacks, and Birth of a Prince. All of his works combined have more than 3 billion streams worldwide.
Hipgnosis has acquired 50% of RZA's worldwide copyrights, including publishing and writer share, in his catalogue comprising 814 songs.
No financial details of the deal were disclosed.
Merck Mercuriadis, founder of Hipgnosis, said: "RZA and the Wu Tang Clan did not invent hip-hop but they took it from being fun to something that represented a true reflection of what the streets, and being black in America was really like. They were and are the most authentic band and brand in hip-hop and it all starts with RZA's vision, his songs and his struggle, manifested in music, that could show the entire world what was really going on. He is now globally recognized as a true renaissance man of hip-hop."
Shares in Hipgnosis were flat at 121.50 pence each on Monday morning in London.
