Hipgnosis Appoints Former Virgin EMI Boss Ted Cockle As President

8th Sep 2020 11:15

(Alliance News) - Hipgnosis Songs Fund Ltd on Tuesday said it has appointed the former president of Virgin EMI, Ted Cockle, as its own president.

Cockle left Virgin EMI in June, which was the UK's number one label for the seven years since its acquisition by Universal Music Group. While he was president, Virgin EMI manages recorded music for artists like Queen, Elton John, Justin Bieber, and Taylor Swift.

He now joins Guernsey-registered investment company Hipgnosis, a FTSE 250 company which gives investors exposure to songs and associated intellectual property rights.

Before joining Virgin EMI, Cockle spend 10 years at Sony Music before joining Universal and becoming co-president of Island Records.

Also joining Hipgnosis effective immediately is Amy Thomson, who becomes Hipgnosis's chief catalogue officer.

"Amy Thomson arrives as chief catalogue officer following on from her successes in management and marketing where she oversaw the careers of Swedish House Mafia, DJ Snake, Seal and many others," said Hipgnosis.

Hipgnosis added that: "Thomson closed her management business in December 2019 to focus on her passion for catalogue management and designed an online system to help artists find, track and trace their catalogue, placing clear ownership back into their hands. The platform has undergone two test phases with major names lending their catalogues with amazing results and will launch, including with Hipgnosis's catalogue, in 2021."

Shares in Hipgnosis were up 0.4% at 121.00 pence in London on Tuesday morning.
