(Alliance News) - Helium One Global Ltd on Monday said it has commenced drilling on its Tai-3 well in Tanzania.
The Tanzania-focused helium explorer said it expects to reach a total depth of 1,100 metres within two weeks.
The drilling programme is targeting multiple reservoir targets, it said, with a portable mass spectrometer in the site in order to measure and validate helium gas shows encountered.
The company said that after it has reached the total depth, Baker Hughes Co will run and evaluate wireline logs, while Helium One will also carry out evaluation suing Baker Hughes' reservoir characterisation instrument to take samples of the downhole.
The firm said the entire drilling and evaluation process is expected to take four weeks.
Chief Executive Lorna Blaisse said: "This is a huge and very exciting milestone for the company. The operations that we are undertaking are a significant shift in both scale and approach from what we undertook in Phase 1. The team have worked exceptionally hard to get to this point and we are focused on delivering a safe and successful drilling campaign.
"By adopting an oil & gas best practice approach to this drilling campaign from drilling, logging and sampling, right through to HSE guidelines and procedures, we are giving ourselves the best possible opportunity to deliver success at Tai-3."
Helium One shares fell 3.8% to 6.20 pence each Monday afternoon in London.
