(Alliance News) - Haydale Graphene Industries PLC on Monday said it will be collaborating with the National Physical Laboratory on a 12-month Innovate UK project.
Innovate UK is funded by the UK government and the Haydale-NPL collaboration will take place under Innovate UK's Analysis for Innovators programme.
In 2014, NPL confirmed the Haydale's functionalisation process increased the quantity of functional groups on graphitic material. Graphene functionalisation is typically used to change the properties of graphene and make graphene sheets easier to separate.
Haydale has since optimised its HDPlas plasma technology and "substantially increased the surface chemistry present", meaning it can offer a competitor to graphene oxide.
By working with NPL, Haydale will be able to understand more about the surface chemistry of the graphene once it has undergone plasma functionalisation.
Haydale Chair David Banks said: "This grant offers access to expert knowledge and world-class analytical facilities to allow Haydale to continue with its focused product development & certification. We look forward to working with NPL and further developing our functionalisation process."
Shares in Haydale were down 0.4% at 2.017 pence on Monday.
