Hackers Find Their Way Into British Airways Frequent-Flier Accounts

30th Mar 2015 05:25

LONDON (Alliance News) - British Airways, owned by International Consolidated Airlines Group, has confirmed that some frequent-flyer accounts have been hacked and stated that it has taken steps to lock down the accounts so that they can no longer be accessed.

However, top executive club flyers are unlikely to be able to use their points until the problem has been solved.

According to the airline, no personal information has been viewed or stolen, and no data such as names, addresses, credit card or bank details, or other personal information were accessed. It is not currently known who is behind the system intrusion.

A spokesperson for British Airways said, "British Airways has become aware of some unauthorised activity in relation to a small number of frequent-flyer executive club accounts. This appears to have been the result of a third party using information obtained elsewhere on the internet, via an automated process, to try to gain access to some accounts."

The airline apologized to customers and said it is taking the incident seriously. The company expects to resolve the security issues within the next few days.
