(Alliance News) - Just Eat PLC on Wednesday said it has penned an exclusive partnership with Greggs PLC, with the intention of having the baker's food offering available on its delivery platform across the UK by the end of 2020.
Greggs products were trialled on the Just Eat platform in London, Newcastle and Glasgow, and will now be launched in Birmingham and Bristol this week. In the Spring, a further rollout is scheduled, with launches in Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and Nottingham in the pipeline.
Just Eat said it plans to make Greggs products available on its platform nationwide by the end of 2020.
Just Eat's UK Managing Director Andrew Kenny said: "We're proud to be the only food delivery app that can bring you the likes of the Greggs vegan sausage roll wherever you are. This is an exciting exclusive partnership for Just Eat.
"Greggs has proved extremely popular with our customers, especially during breakfast, demonstrating that as a nation we love the convenience of getting our favourite food delivered - be it a Greggs bacon baguette and coffee on a Tuesday or your local Thai at the weekend."
Bakery chain Greggs is an on-the-go food favourite in the UK, and earlier in January it said like-for-like sales for the year ended December 28 were up 9.2% annually.
The announcement of the partnership also comes in the wake of Just Eat being the object of a bidding war between Takeaway.NV and Prosus NV.
Last Friday, Dutch peer Takeaway.com NV looked set to beat Prosus to a Just Eat tie-up, as it said its proposed all-share merger had become unconditional.
The deal valued Just Eat's shares at 916.00 pence each, and followed a previous bid which valued the stock at 731.00p.
Prosus, a spin-off of Johannesburg-listed media giant Naspers Ltd, offered cash bids of 710p, 740p, and even 800p.
Just Eat shares were 0.8% higher at 901.40p each in London on Wednesday morning.
Greggs shares were 0.4% higher at 2,438.12.
