Go-Ahead Says Regional Bus Operations "Slightly Weaker" Than Expected

28th Nov 2019 08:38

(Alliance News) - Transport operator Go-Ahead Group PLC said Thursday its performance in both bus and rail divisions has been mixed.

The company said the performance of regional bus operations has been "slightly weaker" than expected in the period from June 30 to November 27. London & International bus continued to perform well, however.

The company said its regional bus revenue rose 2.5% for the period, with 0.5% increase in passenger journeys. Meanwhile London & International bus revenue rose 8%, with 4% increase in mileage.

Chief Executive Officer David Brown said: "We continue to invest in the customer experience and were pleased to introduce the UK's first tap on, tap off capped payment scheme outside London, on our buses in Brighton."

In rail, overall expectations remain unchanged with a good performance in the UK offsetting a challenging operational start to two new German contracts.

Southeastern continues to perform well, both operationally and financially, while operational performance in Govia Thameslink Railway GTR continues to benefit from the significant improvements delivered over the past 18 months, the company said.

"In rail, I'm pleased to see the continuation of strong performance across our UK operations, delivering some of the highest levels of punctuality and customer satisfaction ever seen on these networks," Brown said.

Go-Ahead shares were 2.6% lower in London at 2,218.00 pence each on Thursday morning.
