Go-Ahead outlook improves amid surging passenger demand for travel

10th Jun 2021 11:24

(Alliance News) - Go-Ahead Group PLC on Thursday reported its highest passenger volumes since the start of pandemic after demand for bus and train travel rises as lockdown restrictions continue to be eased.

The passenger transport company said it has seen a "robust trading performance" across all divisions, with an improved financial outlook for the financial year ending July 3.

Regional bus passenger volumes were performing particularly well, at around 65% to 70% of pre-crisis levels, Go-Ahead noted. It has increased full-year expectations for its London & International bus division as a result.

The Newcastle upon Tyne, England-based firm said future growth opportunities are underpinned by a strong balance sheet and cash generation "ahead of previous expectations". It "continues to work towards paying a dividend at an appropriate level in the 2021 calendar year".

"After more than a year of Covid-19 restrictions limiting travel, it is great to see our buses and trains carrying more passengers as these restrictions start to ease and people enjoy the benefits of communities and businesses reopening," commented Chief Executive David Brown.

"There are more people using our services today than at any point over the pandemic and we are ready to safely welcome more people back to our buses and trains."

Go-Ahead Group shares were trading 0.9% lower in London on Thursday at 1,180.50 pence each.
