(Alliance News) - Global Petroleum Ltd said on Thursday that the Italian Council of State has referred the environmental permit grant appeal made by the region of Puglia to the European Court.
In May 2019, the oil & gas company noted several appeals by 12 parties against environmental permits granted by the Administrative Tribunal in Rome. All the appeals were rejected by the court in Rome except one.
In July 2019, Global Petroleum said that appeals had been submitted to the Council of State - the highest level of appeal in the country.
On Wednesday, the company said that the appeals were heard by the Council of State on January 23 and have now been referred to the European Court, requesting the court to rule whether whether the four exploration licence applications granted contravene a relevant EU directive relating to the maximum permissible size of individual permits.
The company believes the further appeal by Puglia to the Council of State to be without merit, and is particularly surprised by the referral to the European Court, Global Petroleum said.
The stock closed 3.5% lower at 1.40 pence each on Thursday afternoon in London.
