GKN Wins Boeing Contract, Buys Small US Company Alongside Deal

11th Jun 2015 10:13

LONDON (Alliance News) - GKN PLC Thursday said it had won a long-term deal to supply aircraft parts to Boeing Co, and would buy a US parts maker in conjunction with the deal.

The aerospace engineer said that it has been awarded a contract to supply inlet lip skins for the Boeing 737 MAX and 777X aircraft and to assemble section 47 floor grids for the 787 Dreamliner.

In conjunction with the contract, GKN said it has bought Sheets Manufacturing Inc, a small, California-based and privately-owned metallic spin forming company that makes aircraft engine inlet lip skins and has legacy programme positions on the Boeing 747-8 and KC-46 tanker aircraft.

"GKN will engineer and manufacture the engine inlet aluminum lip skins for Boeing using proprietary processes developed by SMI and enhanced by GKN's automated industrialisation techniques. The lip skins will be produced at both the current site in Camarillo and a new purpose built manufacturing facility in Orangeburg, South Carolina," it said.

The company didn't provide any financial details about either the contract or the acquisition.

Its shares were up 0.7% at 371.30 pence Thursday morning.
