(Alliance News) - Genus PLC said Thursday it has promoted Finance Director Stephen Wilson to become the new chief of the FTSE 250-listed animal genetics firm from mid-September.
Wilson, at Genus since 2013, will replace current Chief Executive Karim Bitar from September 13. This follows Bitar announcing in late March he was leaving the company at the end of September in order to join medical products maker ConvaTec Group PLC as CEO.
"Genus is extremely fortunate to have such a strong individual in Stephen Wilson to fill the role of Chief Executive," Genus Chair Bob Lawson said. "Stephen has already had significant strategic and operational input in the development of Genus and no one knows the business better than him."
"We are delighted Stephen will drive Genus through the next stage of our continued growth, and it is clear that Genus is, and will continue to be, in strong hands", Lawson added.
Genus Financial Controller Janet Duane will assume the current finance director responsibilities on an interim basis. The search for a permanent replacement to Wilson has already been initiated.
Shares in Genus were 0.2% higher at 2,602.00 pence in London on Thursday.
